As I’m sure you know, Saturday 6th May 2023 was an auspicious day both across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth with the historic coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey. With Street parties arranged the length and breadth of the country, one here in Nansledan was a must!
The weather was predicted to be inclement and in the early hours the rain was beating hard on the windows, but by10am the clouds parted, the sun shone, the weather was kind to us all!
A group of Volunteers pulled out all the stops to aid the NCA Committee in making the day a great success. The main route into Nansledan was adorned with handmade bunting made from donated fabric, only possible because of the hard work of these Volunteers. So, a massive thanks goes out to every one of them who helped in the planning and during the event itself.
The day was a real family affair with children and adults enjoying fun games, and competitions in Parc Mengleudh. The new NCA Gazebo funded by our members’ subscriptions and other donated funds, proved to be a real benefit and an excellent investment. It provided a focal point for families in the Parc and some respite from the early May sunshine. William’s table puzzles proved very popular with the children, and it was very satisfying to see the excitement on their faces.
The Environment stand Tatiana had some great chats with residents who were keen to help improve our natural space in Nansledan. Residents signed up to join a new environment group. They will be asking folk to come forward with ideas for local projects and activities. Lots of little children skipped away with leaflets on how to encourage hedgehogs to visit their garden. A sunny, joyful eco-afternoon was had by all.
Moving into the evening people sat back and relaxed as we were royally entertained by Our Atlantic Roots and John Hereward. It was a joy listen to and well worth the wait. We will certainly book them both for future events if funds permit.
Here are just some of the many pieces of feedback received from our residents and help to sum up the day. We think our colourful pictures say it all.
“It was a great day and everyone had lots of fun” Dave Down
“What I loved about the Nansledan Coronation Party is that it was accessible to everyone. Organised by the community, for the community and enjoyed with our extended neighbours from across the estate. You can choose to walk around, and people watch, settle on a picnic blanket with your own nibbles, socialise or keep to yourselves, have fun with the games and music, get yourself a treat from our wonderful little shops and even order a takeaway to the street tables! "
“It was just lovely. These things take a lot of planning and work and I’m very grateful to all that made the magic happen” Alison Payne
How delightful to see our community joined with bunting, flags and happy gatherings to celebrate the crowning of our (very own!) King Charles. Thank you for uplifting us all with so much neighbourly togetherness. Here’s to next time!” Alison Bailey
Keep your eyes peeled for our next event which will be the Summer Fayre. If you have any ideas or activities you would like to see during the Summer Fayre, please let us know via our Contact Page , and of course don’t forget to join the Association to keep these events possible!
