A summary of the NCA Christmas Festivities across Nansledan

Christmas in Nansledan gets busier each year as we strive to offer as many activities to ensure our Community has something to look forward to on the run up to our Christmas Light switch on and Market.

This year saw the first live Christmas Advent Callender where residents across Nansledan volunteered to take part. Each one was given a number which equated to a day in December. There number dictated when they would create and turn on their Advent Callender lights. This then gave the community across Nansledan the opportunity to walk around the Christmas Advent trail and explore the variety of christmas lights and advent callender decorated windows which helped lift the Christmas Spirit across the estate.

On the 3rd December we ran our Christmas Lantern workshop in the Community Centre. Run by Paula our Events Manager, children and parents came along and had bags of fun putting their craft skills together.

Nasndledan Arts Festival also organised a fun filled Christmas family card printing workshop, which allowed families to show off their creative artistic side.

Saturday the 6th December was the big Christmas light switch/Christmas Market. Newquay Samba band kept the crowd entertained while waiting for Santa on his sleigh to fly into Parc Mengleudh and start the proceedings with the Christmas count down. Our special guest invited to turn on the lights this year was Geraint Richards the High Sheriff of Cornwall. Geraint wrote to the NCA following the event and said “It was a privilege to attend and I was amazed at how many people turned out, well done you!”

Santa then set of down to Kew-an-Lergh for the main Christmas market and live music. He was followed by Newquay Smaba Band who played there signature music followed by the residents and visitors who came to enjoy the Christmas festivities across Nansledan. Folks were also entertained by live music performed by Shauni/Kello and Timeless.

On Sunday 7th we organised a Charity Concert with live music from The Velvet Hour/The Palmers/Indian Queens Brass Band and St Gregory’s Band. The weather was not kind which impacted on the audience turn out but we still managed to raise £154 split between Cornwall Air Ambulance and RNLI.

We would like to extend a massive thank you to the Duchy of Cornwall for their continued support in helping us run this event. Without their support this event would not happen so Thank you. We would also like to thank this years sponsors Newquay Lions/Newquay Towan Blystra Lions and Matt Downing from WTS Energy UK Ltd. Your sponsorship is really appreciated.
